My Hero Academia Cast Members Look Back on an Emotional Last Chapter: 'I am Kind of a Emotional Wreck'
The beloved anime series My Hero Academia has reached its conclusion, leaving fans with a profound sense of emotion that extends beyond the on-screen narrative. This heroic tale has always been more than a simple story; it's a coming-of-age journey about optimism, perseverance, and the true meaning of heroism in a world full of trials. The final season pushes these central ideas to their absolute limit, as Class 1-A faces the fallout of the villainous uprising and a world teetering on the brink of total chaos.
For a whole audience, the series, which debuted in 2015, served as their introduction to anime. From its explosive debut to its emotional ending, it shaped the art form for nearly a decade. Its conclusion truly marks the close of an era. If you find yourself shedding a tear during the final episodes, know that you are in good company. The voice actors experienced those exact emotions, channeling immense heart into their performances for the last chapters.
Bidding Goodbye to a Defining Chapter
"It was such a wonderful thing to see this final season bring together all these narrative strands into this huge, heartfelt release for these heroes," shared one actor. "And to be part of that, during that time, voicing the characters, is incredibly powerful."
The difficulty of the farewell isn't solely due to the plot. My Hero Academia became a major part in the careers of its cast, and with its end comes the closing of an era they have been part of for a long time.
"Just as a human being, for whom this has been a daily reality for the majority of ten years, even if the dialogue I deliver isn’t overly sentimental, if it’s just my character being himself, every time I finish a session, I’m kind of a weepy mess because it's over. I’m not ready," admitted another seasoned performer.
Unexpected Tears from the Final Battles
Despite voicing their own signature characters, several actors still have personal favorite characters outside their own, figures whose story arcs affected them just as hard on an emotional level.
"What that’s taken me aback so far in my viewing of the last episodes is how many characters are making me cry," noted one actor. "Whether that be All Might’s fight at the very beginning of this season, Aizawa, [even] the Shining Hero drew a tear this season!"
The performers behind the brotherly hero-and-villain duo were also caught up in the heartbreak of their complex relationship, especially during the brothers’ confrontations across the final chapters.
A Simple Question
"Just a couple of days ago, a fellow actor delivered a line as his character that, honestly, if you heard it alone, it’s a simple line, it shouldn’t do anything, but he poses a question to his sibling a question, and the way it was delivered was so authentic and poignant," recalled one actor. "It influenced the performance I gave. I adore my colleagues, they’re so good at this, and I can’t express enough that I’m so fortunate."
Another actor agreed wholeheartedly, explaining that the apparently minor line traces back to a brief, funny scene shown earlier, one that comes full circle in the finale and carries immense dramatic impact.
"Jump ahead to the final season, when they’re meeting, and [the character] says, 'Wait, I need more time'," the actor explained. "Yeah, it was just a way to try to reach out. It was just a question, but within the story, it's all-encompassing. It's love, acceptance, sorrow..."
"... and penitence," finished the other, clearly moved. "Those brothers should’ve been able to speak like that."
