Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the team's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
