The Prince of Wales Plans to Join UN Climate Conference in South America

The Prince of Wales will represent the United Nations climate conference in South America next month, as confirmed by royal officials.

Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a gathering leading up to the climate summit, which is planned for in the Amazonian city of Belém.

The King and Prince were present at the scientific institution event, marking an rare public appearance together at a climate summit preparatory event organized in partnership with the British authorities.

Environmental Advocacy Dedication

King Charles has been a consistent supporter of environmental conservation - and Prince William has assumed the responsibility, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be taking place in South America preceding the climate conference.

Royal sources have portrayed William's involvement at the next COP as assuming an important role in "environmental negotiations".

Previous Activities

The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the official car, were welcomed participants featuring environmentalists, scientists, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and politicians.

This participation featured addresses together with President Emmanuel Macron of France and other world leaders at the Ocean Finance Summit in the Principality of Monaco earlier this year.

The UN meeting will align with the William's personal Earthshot environmental awards, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the eve of he joins the climate conference on the sixth of November.

Last week the prince described the award contenders as "heroes of our time".

Royal Climate Legacy

The monarch has been a influential participant at previous climate summits, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for COP28, including the reminder: "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth".

"For decades I've committed a large proportion of my life trying to raise awareness about the existential threats challenging our world over climate change, climate change and biodiversity loss," the King told attendees.
